It is our pleasure to introduce you to THE ENCOURAGEMENT AWARD. In our previous incarnation we have been the in-house label for "I LIKE YOU" a fashion boutique store in Melbourne Australia. We are very excited about everything. Everything. Even when melbourne is cold and everyone is crying, we always feel cheered by a cup of tea, a new scarf design, a spotty fabric (with lining) a couple of hat spots around town and an Encouragement Award with blue ribbons and a smiley 'you didnt win but you tried' pat.

Wye River for EVER!!

I have recently returned form my little Summer holiday and this year ( even thought I would have preferred New York) we went to Wye River (I still want to go to New york), It was so beautiful and relaxing I was truly surprised, amazed and impressed that such a little seaside town could bring me so much joy.

We stayed in the cutest little place on the hill called http://wyerivercubbyhouse.com/ and I give it a 10 out of 10. When we arrived there was a whole mob of birds waiting for me and I loved every single one of those birds like they were my very own. These guys ate seeds from my hands, pecked at my fingers and sung me songs like no other birds I have ever met. I think the Cubby House is amazing and everyone should stay there.

Fella!!!

More Fellas – this bird was very friendly and kind.

More fellas – everywhere!

Nice warm beach except that it was freezing cold.

Cold beach – warm birds!

Little ducks – also very friendly.

Tee shirt of great happiness

I was pretty sure that summer was here and we could all go out and enjoy ourselves and have a nice time sitting in the garden drinking ice tea and wearing bonds singlets, but apparently not the case. It is very cold outside and a little bit grey and a little bit rain and a little bit hail and a lot of cold wind which is really annoying me and my cat is also complaining. But here is a little something to brighten up the day and possibly wear around the house if you turn up your heater and pretend that its summer.  It is called the Tee shirt of great happiness and you can find them in my etsy shop at www.encouragementaward.etsy.com.

Sun good times to be hat

Every summer I meet lovely customers who ask me to ‘please make a cap that actually protects their face from the sun’, and every summer I say ‘ yes what a good, responsible and healthy sun smart idea’ and then within seconds I go about my sewing and completely forget all about it. Then winter approaches and I think  ‘hmm I should really make a cap that actually protects the face from the sun (well at least protect the nose)’. Normally by now I would have forgotten all about it… except that this time I remembered and then I went away and made one, then two then three test caps and before I knew it I had modified all of my cap patterns to make the mega sun smart cap. So here it is friends just in time for the end of winter (or the beginning of summer.)  Here you will see a sneak peek at my Summer 2011 cap collection.

Careful its raining summer sun smart caps!

Its the amaSING three in one sun smart summer scarf hat – goodness me!

The complete ribbon, tie your summer sun smart cap down so it won’t blow away cap – golly!

MOVELOUS

Ive been lacking some serious mo-tivation to update my blog over the last 6 months .. oh my gawd has it really been that long. Anyway enough’s enough and its back to business as of right now. What do you think of these fine fellows? I pinched these pics of my husbands blog:  sweetgeorgiabrownbarbers.com. I think they are great and something to think about. As we get closer to Summer a big moustache may come in handy.. but maybe not.. I’m not really sure, you’ll have to think about it.

A Bunting good time

I love bunting.. always have, always will. I think everyone should make some bunting and hang it up in the home, around trees, on lamp posts, in the car, above the bed or on  bicycle handles. I have often wanted to hang bunting from ear to ear like a cool chain or around my head like a bunting bandana. What about having a bunting scarf? or some bunting trim around your socks? or a bunting tie?. These are all very good ideas which i hope that one day i will get around to doing, but while we all wait in great anticipation for the arrival of the  bunting  bandana-sock trim-scarf-tie I would like you to have a look at this cute silver bunting necklace my good friend and most excellent jeweler Bonny Lad made very recently. This is a one-off piece at the moment but you can always order one from him ( or me ) the Rose Street Artist market every Saturday from 11 – 5.

Not this one – this is fabric bunting made by me for the Rose St artist market ( you can order it too)

This one – ahhh so lovely and its real silver with hand crafted prints on each flag.. holy bunting batman….

ssshhhhhh

I don’t really have much to say at the moment – but I thought this pretty much says it all for now….. ahhh sweet sweet Japan.

SCARF HAT YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEE

Dear friends, it has been a while since my last entry – but I am back now and thought you might like to share in the great joy of the scarf hat. A scarf attached to a cap – goodness what will they think of next?  The scarf hat has been around for many years now and it originated back in 2003 with a previous label ‘This Wallpaper Rocks’. The scarf hat has been seen out at the beach, down in the park, on the golfing green and just about everywhere you can think of, in fact it would be fair to say that the scarf hat is all up in everybody’s faces.  The scarf hat is reversible and quite often very colourful and is available at the Rose St Artist Market every Sat 11-5.

Everyone loves a scarf hat… you’ve got to get a scarf hat… scarf hat, scarf hat, go scarf hat go…

NORM,BOB AND MR ROBOTO

Dear everyone – check this out.

They are pencil chopsticks – omg chopsticks made to look like pencils. How amazing. I bought them from japan recently and I love them with all my heart. Stupidly I only purchased 6 of them which means I can only have 2  friends over for dinner plus me, or 3 friends and I just watch them eat. Either way I think they are great and i just hope I don’t break them or loose them or accidently sharpen them.

Now here are 3 friends that I would be happy to invite over to dinner – Nom, Bob and Mr Robato ( Dormo Arigato) and their little felt sushi brooch friends. These 3 were made all the way back in 2003 when my friend  and I had a label called ‘this wallpaper rocks’. I would happily let them use these chopsticks to eat each other except that they don’t have any hands so it wouldn’t really work out. Oh well looks like Ill just have to save them all for myself.

I BAGS IT FIRST!

I have been feeling a bit flat since coming back from my amazing most excellent adventure in Europe and beyond. I miss the food, I miss the coffee, I miss the endless window shopping, the great people you meet along the way, staying up till way past my bed time just so I can have that one more little glass of wine and I especially miss the time before I had such a big credit card debt. But you know what? I have spoken to my mum about all of these things and she has given me some very wise words.. she told me to ‘turn that frown upside down’. So that’s exactly what I did. And here is the result and I call it – ‘the upside down frown tote bag’ and I dedicate it to my very clever mum. (thanks mum)

Oh and it will also  be available at the Rose St Artist Markets every Sat and Sunday. So we can all have a big upside down frown of our very own!!. (just in time for christmas)

Last stop.. London

I have just returned home from my amazing, wonderful trip away and I must say, I had the greatest time of my whole holidaying career. I met cakes that i never knew existed ( and then ate them), I drank my way around Europe, met a swan boat that stole my heart in Japan and laughed so much I cried.

But before my trip was over I went to my favorite country in the world – England. I met a few pints of guinness that I couldn’t say no to, ate cheesy chips for the very first time and had two Sunday roasts in one day ( can you believe my luck?). But before I said goodbye to the motherland it was only fitting that I have one last cream tea, cos you know what they say… here today – scone tomorrow.  xxx
